Dagoretti High dominates as Nairobi West rugby tournament ignites
The Nairobi West Sub-Region rugby tournament has kicked off with dominant performances from several schools. Dagoretti High School led the way, securing two heavy wins in Group A, while other teams also posted commanding victories in their opening matches.
The competition has already shown early signs of intensity, with coaches and players setting high targets for the knockout stages ahead.
Dagoretti High School began their campaign with a crushing 71-11 win over Kangemi High in Group A. They controlled the game from the start, leading 25-2 after the first quarter and extending their advantage to 40 points by halftime. Their second match ended in another one-sided victory, beating Strathmore School 55-18 to maintain their unbeaten run.
In Group E, Ofafa Jericho opened their account with a 45-0 demolition of Our Lady of Fatima (OLOF). Kyle Amisi stood out, crossing the line four times for his team. Despite the easy win, captain Brian Barasa emphasised that their focus remains on progressing deep into the tournament.
Elsewhere, Upper Hill collected maximum points in rugby 15s after Highway Secondary School failed to appear for their Group A fixture. Lenana School also dominated, thrashing Ushirika 61-0 in Group D, while Nairobi School secured second place in Group C with a 42-20 win over St Mary's.
St Hannahs topped Group C after two narrow victories, edging St Mary's 41-25 before overcoming Nairobi School 42-39. Their four points put them at the summit of the group standings.
Looking ahead, Dagoretti High coach Hassan Kibagendi expects tougher challenges in the knockout rounds. His team aims to defend their regional title and earn a spot at the national games.
The tournament's early stages have seen lopsided results, with top teams asserting their dominance. Dagoretti High, Ofafa Jericho, and St Hannahs have all made strong starts, but the knockout phase will test their strength further. Coaches and players are now preparing for the next round, where the competition is set to intensify.
