Cynthia Erivo comforts fan after security altercation at Dracula performance
A young fan was restrained by a security guard after waiting to meet actor Cynthia Erivo outside London's Noel Coward Theatre. The incident occurred following her performance in Dracula, where she plays 23 different roles. Footage later showed Erivo comforting the distressed fan and apologising for what happened.
The fan, named Lewis, had been waiting at the stage door when the confrontation took place. A video circulating online captures the moment a guard, not employed by the theatre, took him to the ground. Erivo quickly stepped in, kneeling beside Lewis and urging him to 'take a breath, baby' while expressing her regret.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed on March 21, 2026, that they were investigating the incident. Authorities stated they were reviewing the footage and gathering details to understand what led to the altercation. The theatre, operated by Delfont Mackintosh Theatres, clarified that the guard involved was not part of their staff. *Dracula*, which began its run on February 4, is scheduled to close on May 31. Erivo's performance has drawn significant attention, with her taking on multiple roles in the production.
Police enquiries into the incident remain ongoing. The video of Erivo's intervention has been widely shared, highlighting her attempt to de-escalate the situation. The theatre has not commented further on the security guard's actions or affiliation.
