Cyclocross competitor Ellen Noble expresses her determination to demonstrate her resilience, competence, and strength by returning to elite cyclocross competition
Ellen Noble Makes a Triumphant Return to Cyclocross
After a six-year absence, Ellen Noble is making a comeback in the world of cyclocross. The two-time US U23 cyclocross national champion will line up with new sponsor Salsa Cycles on Saturday at the Rochester Cyclocross event.
Noble's return to full-time cycling in 2025 marks a significant milestone in her career. She has been reconnecting to cycling through gravel, mountain, and 'cross events since recovering from illness and injuries.
The journey back to the sport began in June 2025, where Noble served as a mentor with the GRVL Femmes Team Challenge. This initiative aims to increase the number of women in gravel races. Noble's team included riders doing their longest ride ever and making comebacks from injuries.
Noble's cycling career has been marked by numerous achievements. In 2013, she won her first junior national title in cyclocross, and the next year, she won her first elite women's UCI races as a junior. She went on to win back-to-back US U23 national titles in 2016 and 2017, plus her first of two Pan-American Cyclocross wins.
One of her most significant achievements came in 2017 when she won the C1 race in Rochester. That same year, she earned a silver medal for U23 women at the World Championships in Bieles, Luxembourg. In 2018, she earned a bronze medal in XCO at US MTB Nationals.
However, after finishing outside the top 20 at Cyclocross Worlds in February 2019, she was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. This setback led her to step back from 'cross racing for a dedicated fall campaign in 2022.
Despite the challenges, Noble has regained a belief in herself that she may have never had before. She expressed that her return is not just about proving herself to others but to herself as well.
Noble's client work for SBT GRVL included participating in the 79-mile SBT GRVL amateur race. She spent much of her summer on long gravel rides in New England, preparing for her comeback.
As she lines up for the UCI races that are part of the US Cyclocross Series (USCX), Noble is ready to take on the challenge. With her determination and resilience, there is no doubt that she will make a strong impact in the cyclocross world once again.
