Tom Pidcock Aims to Close Grand Tour Gap with Q36.5

Tom Pidcock, the former Ineos Grenadiers rider who recently joined Q36.5, is set to analyse his performance at the Vuelta a España to identify areas for improvement and build on his strengths. Pidcock's long-term coach, Kurt Bogaerts, believes that to potentially win a Grand Tour, Pidcock needs to close a minimum of three to four minutes.

Pidcock, who finished third at the Vuelta a España, shared the belief that he has the potential to win a Grand Tour. His goal at the start of the race was to finish in the top 10 or ideally top 5, but he surpassed expectations with his podium finish.

Q36.5, a ProTeam, achieved a podium finish at the Vuelta a España, a rare achievement for a team of their status. Pidcock's new team is planning to harness what went right at the Spanish Grand Tour to close the gap to the top.

To achieve this, Q36.5 is strengthening its climbing support for 2026 with the addition of Chris Harper and Eddie Dunbar. These riders will join the team to support Pidcock in Grand Tours. The team has also signed Classics riders like Fred Wright to ease the pressure on Pidcock during the Spring.

Pidcock, a proven climber, has shown his abilities across three weeks of racing, but this was not well-studied until his performance at the Vuelta. The post-Vuelta path for Pidcock and his team will be about consolidating their recent success and gradually improving their competitiveness in Grand Tours.

However, Q36.5's invitation to the Tour de France in 2026 is not guaranteed, given their status as a ProTeam. The Tour de France may be an ultimate goal for Pidcock, but Q36.5 aren't going to rush towards that. Instead, they plan to take a more measured approach towards Grand Tours.

Pidcock, a former winner atop Alpe d'Huez, is looking forward to continuing his partnership with Q36.5 in the next season, likely focusing on the Vuelta a España again. Bogaerts suggests that they will try to copy what went right at the Spanish Grand Tour and make it achievable, the progression.

Pidcock, with his new team behind him, is optimistic about his Grand Tour winning potential. With the right strategies and support, Pidcock and Q36.5 aim to make significant strides in the world of Grand Tours.
