Cyclist Tom Pidcock and team Q36.5 planning for victories in upcoming Grand Tours following podium finish at Vuelta a Espana
Tom Pidcock's Grand Tour Ambitions Take Shape with Q36.5
Tom Pidcock, the British cyclist who recently finished third at the Vuelta a Espana, is setting his sights on a potential Grand Tour win with his new team, Q36.5.
Pidcock's partnership with Q36.5 marks his first year away from Ineos Grenadiers, and the team has made significant investments in his Grand Tour support for the future. Kurt Bogaerts, Pidcock's long-term coach, believes that to win a Grand Tour, Pidcock needs to close a gap of approximately 3 to 4 minutes.
The progression towards a potential Grand Tour win will be a gradual process for Pidcock and Q36.5. The team is not planning to rush towards the Tour de France, with the French race being an ultimate goal but not the immediate focus. Instead, they will focus on harnessing what went right at the Spanish Grand Tour and analyzing it for future improvement.
Pidcock's abilities as a climber have been well-known, but his abilities across three weeks of racing were not well-studied until this Vuelta. The team will try to copy and analyze the Vuelta a Espana to close the gap to the top.
To ease the pressure on Pidcock during the Spring, Fred Wright has been signed by Q36.5. Chris Harper and Eddie Dunbar have also been brought on board for 2026.
At the start of the Vuelta, Pidcock's goal was to finish in the top 10 or top 5. His third-place finish was a defiance of expectations and a testament to his potential. Q36.5's post-Vuelta path will focus on building on this success and working towards a Grand Tour victory in the future.
Despite their status as a ProTeam, Q36.5 isn't guaranteed an invite to the Tour de France in 2026. Regardless, Pidcock remains optimistic about his future with the team and believes he has the potential to win a Grand Tour.
