Tadej Pogačar Claims Stage 12 Victory in the Pyrenees, Extends Yellow Jersey Lead

Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) secured a commanding solo victory in Stage 12 of the 2025 Tour de France, reclaiming the yellow jersey with authority. The Slovenian rider, who also holds the overall lead, dominated the gruelling Hautacam climb, finishing 2 minutes and 10 seconds ahead of his closest rivals [1][2].

The stage began with a breakaway group of 50 riders, including riders from Ineos Grenadiers and UAE Team Emirates-XRG. The breakaway drew out a two-minute gap over the first half of the stage, but Pogačar's performance soon put them in the rearview mirror [3].

Pogačar's victory on the Hautacam, an hors catégorie climb with an uneven gradient, averaging 7.8%, dispelled any doubts about his condition after a crash the previous day. His dominance, control, and strong tactical performance throughout the race showed he was riding at a very high level physically and mentally [4][5].

Bruno Armirail (Groupama-FDJ) took an advantage of two minutes into the mountain finale but was soon passed by Pogačar at high speed [6]. Pogačar put more than two minutes into his GC rival Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike), now leading the race overall by three minutes and 31 seconds [7].

Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step) lost time on the stage, with his overall General Classification (GC) position now four minutes and 45 seconds down [8]. Jhonatan Narváez (Ineos Grenadiers) led out Pogačar to attack at the foot of the Hautacam climb, and Michael Woods (Israel-Premier Tech) led the race solo over the top of the Soulor and onto its descent [9].

In a poignant moment, Pogačar dedicated his win to Samuele Privitera, a 19-year-old Italian cyclist who tragically passed away after crashing at the Giro della Valle d'Aosta [10]. At the finish line, Pogačar offered his victory salute, pointing to the sky in memory of Privitera.

Pogačar's fourth overall Tour de France victory in six years further solidifies his status as a dominant and strategic rider, blending power, control, and joy in racing [3][5]. The Tour de France continues in the Pyrenees on Friday with a 10.9km mountain time trial to Peyragudes.
