Cyclist Remco Evenepoel clinches victory in the time trial on stage 4 of Critérium du Dauphiné, seizing the race's overall lead.

In a breathtaking display, Remco Evenepoel left his rivals in the dust during the time trial stage four of the Critérium du Dauphiné, securing a stunning victory on the 17.4km course from Charmes-sur-Rhône to Saint-Péray. Averaging an astounding 50 km/h, the Belgian demolished the competition, finishing with a time of 20:50:90.

Beating the times of Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogačar, Evenepoel took over the overall race lead from Iván Romeo, with a gap of 4 seconds ahead of Florian Lipowitz in second. Vingegaard climbed to fifth place, 16 seconds behind Evenepoel, while Pogačar dropped to eighth, 38 seconds behind the stage winner. Evenepoel's teammate Matteo Jorgenson also impressed, finishing in ninth, just one second slower than Pogačar.

Evenepoel, the reigning Olympic and World Champion, was simply invincible on the day. He beat Vingegaard and Pogačar by 20 and 49 seconds, respectively. After the race, he shared his strategy, "My goal was to go as fast as possible until the intermediate. After that, I just tried to get a steady pace until the finish line."

The Belgian expressed surprise at the significant time he took from Pogačar, commenting, "In the end, it's quite a big gap on quite a short TT, so I'm very happy to have put over one second per kilometers on everybody." Evenepoel's win marked a milestone for his team, marking their 1,000th victory in the WorldTour races.
