Cyclist Georg Zimmermann of Augsburg shares news following his accident and withdrawal from the tour
Georg Zimmermann Looks Ahead After Tour de France Withdrawal
Georg Zimmermann, the road cycling professional from Augsburg, returned home after the 12th stage of the Tour de France 2025, following his withdrawal from the race after crashing during the 9th stage.
Zimmermann, who wore the German champion's jersey, had high ambitions for the Tour de France, aiming to secure a stage win. The first eight stages of the race saw him enjoying his role as the German champion. However, the ninth stage proved to be a challenging one for Zimmermann, as he crashed over a bottle and sustained deep scrapes on his hip, calf, and elbow.
In an interview with ARD, Zimmermann reported that he is doing well and has no serious injuries. He visited a friend's doctor in Augsburg and left with positive feedback. His elbow, in particular, is reported to be fine.
Initially, Zimmermann found it difficult to accept his withdrawal from the Tour de France. However, he has since closed the chapter positively, focusing on his recovery and upcoming races.
Zimmermann's own prognosis looks positive, and he hopes to compete again in a few weeks. The upcoming Deutschland Tour and the World Championships in September are more important to him. His potential return to competition could be at the Tour de Neuss on July 30.
While Zimmermann's injury, recovery timeline, or return to competition have not been publicly reported as of early August 2025, he expressed his belief that Florian Lipowitz has a chance to achieve a lot in the Tour de France.
Despite the unfortunate turn of events, Zimmermann remains optimistic about his future in cycling. His resilience and determination are evident, as he sets his sights on the upcoming races and the opportunity to compete once more.
