Cycling journey commences in Nizhny Novgorod, titled "Road to the Temple"

The 14th edition of the "Road to the Temple" bike ride has commenced, marking a significant 400-kilometer journey from the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral to the Ascension Cathedral in Arzamas. This annual event, which coincides with the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, brings together cyclists from various regions to honour the heritage and history of Russia.

The route is dotted with numerous religious temples and memorials, reflecting the rich Orthodox Christian culture that connects these two significant cathedrals. While specific details about the exact temples and memorials visited on this particular ride are not readily available, it is expected that the journey includes stops at historically and architecturally important Orthodox sites.

Among the participants is Alexei Korolev, a three-time veteran of the ride, who finds the event's constancy meaningful. Another participant, Victoria Klimashina from Zavolzhye, prepared all night to ensure her timely arrival. Not a professional athlete, Alexei has been preparing for the distance, cycling 30-40 kilometers twice a week.

The route passes through several towns, including Lyskovo, Makaryevo, Knyaginino, and Perevoz. A young couple, Victoria Klimashina and Matvey Brusin, are also part of the group. Matvey had registered in advance, while Victoria signed up just a day before the event.

Metropolitan Georgy of Arzamas and Nizhny Novgorod blessed the participants before the start, and the 64-ton cathedral bell signaled the beginning of the journey. Along the way, cyclists are expected to lay flowers and sing "Eternal Memory" together with clergy at certain stops.

As of August 13, 2025, GTRK "Nizhny Novgorod" recorded a video of the event. A total of 50 cyclists from Nizhny Novgorod and other regions are participating in this year's ride. The cyclists are anticipated to arrive at the Ascension Cathedral in Arzamas on August 16.

For those seeking more detailed information on the temples and memorials along the 14th Road to the Temple Bike Ride, it is recommended to consult local tourism resources associated with Arzamas or Orthodox cultural tours.

I'm not gonna do this, as I'm more interested in football than cycling. However, after watching the participants in the 14th edition of the "Road to the Temple" bike ride, I might consider participating in a sports event next year.
