Ready, Set, Cycle! Düsseldorf's Stadtradeln Campaign is Back, and Better Than Ever

Hey there, cycling enthusiasts! Düsseldorf's bicycle movement is picking up speed once more. Since May 5th, the city has thrown open its doors for all cyclists to pedal their way towards an eco-friendly future as part of the eleventh Stadtradeln campaign.

Over 2,700 cities from Luxembourg, France, the USA, and beyond are participating, collecting cycled kilometers. If you're down to join the movement, you can register for free at www.stadtradeln.de/duesseldorf. As of May 15th, we've already got 8,826 cyclists signed up. Whether you're a resident, work in, attend school or university, or belong to a local association in Düsseldorf, you're welcome to take part. Registration is even possible after the kilometer collection has begun.

Last year, 9,952 cyclists participated, and we're aiming to surpass that number. The trips you make with your bike or e-bike are what count, whether they're for work, school, leisure, vacation, shopping, or any other reason. The only exceptions are competitive bike races. So far, 499 teams have registered in the race, and many organizations encourage more participation.

Düsseldorf teams are competing in both the overall ranking and six special categories. The special categories are schools, clubs, companies, neighborhoods, families, and administration. The winning teams will be honored by Mayor Dr. Stephan Keller at a closing ceremony. The conclusion of Stadtradeln 2023 will coincide with the European Mobility Week from September 16th to 22nd.

The city administration is leading by example. Mayor Dr. Stephan Keller is captaining the city administration's overall team, which currently consists of 23 sub-teams from various departments and 418 cyclists.

Cyclists can take part in a selection of activities and tours to make the most of the campaign. For example, on Sunday, May 12th, at 10 am, the Dominicans will bless bicycles, pedelecs, inline skates, skateboards, rollators, or even strollers in front of the Andreaskirche in the old town. Questions about Stadtradeln can be answered through email and phone.

The city offers various tours led by experts from the administration to explore diverse routes, including the Rhine bridges, climate tours, and the Düssel. These tours will take place between May 17th and 29th and will be rounded off with a relaxed atmosphere in a restaurant with time for conversation.
