Cycling Event Gathers Elite Sprinters and 7500 Amateur Riders in Münsterland
Get ready, cycling enthusiasts! The Sparkassen Münsterland Giro is set to return on October 3, 2025, with an exciting lineup of events for both professionals and amateurs.
The professional race, part of the UCI WorldTour, will commence in Oelde-Stromberg, Warendorf district, and cover a challenging 191 kilometers, concluding in front of the castle in Münster. The route will take cyclists through several laps between Stromberg and Beckum, with the Hoëxberg in Beckum being climbed twice. After the last climb at the Pilatusberg in Ostenfelde, the course becomes flatter, leading towards the Lower Saxon state border, passing through Greven before heading to Münster-Sprakel. The decision for the professional race will be made after three final laps in Münster-Sprakel.
For those who want to join the action, the Sparkassen Münsterland Giro will offer a record participation of around 7,500 amateur cyclists in the LeezenCup. The race will start in Stromberg and finish at the castle in Münster, covering various distances depending on the cup - 65 kilometers for the Cup of Sparkasse Münsterland Ost, 95 kilometers for the Cup of Provinzial Versicherung, and 125 kilometers for the LBS Cup. The LBS Cup route runs along the professional route near Sassenberg and Füchtorf, rewarding participants with many professional kilometers until the finish.
The inclusive race "Giro-Inklusiv" will start in Stromberg and run on a 3-kilometer course. The LeezenKids bike race and fat-tire races for the Stadtwerke Kids Cup will take place in front of the castle, with around 600 children between the ages of 3 and 12 participating.
Top German cyclists such as John Degenkolb, Max Walscheid, and top sprinter Pascal Ackermann are expected to participate in the professional race. Last year's winner, Per Strand Hagenes (Visma | Lease a Bike), and his teammate Olav Kooij, who won the race in 2022, are among the competitors.
The center of the Sparkassen Münsterland Giro, including the finish area, will be located around the Schlossplatz. The race can be followed from 13:05 in the ARD-Sportschau livestream. The press conference for the Sparkassen Münsterland Giro was held at Kulturgut Haus Nottbeck in Stromberg.
