Brandon McNulty Claims Victory in the Tour de Pologne Time Trial
In a thrilling time trial around Wieliczka near Krakow, Brandon McNulty (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) secured a decisive win, clinching the overall victory in the 2023 Tour de Pologne.
McNulty, who finished 12th in the time trial, managed to defend his fourth place overall with a 39-second lead. His winning time was 14:31, an impressive 18 seconds faster than the fastest intermediate time check after six kilometres.
Lorenzo Milesi (Movistar) held the fastest intermediate time but finished second overall, 12 seconds behind McNulty with a time of 14:43. Matteo Sobrero (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) completed the podium, finishing third with a time of 14:46, 15 seconds slower than McNulty.
Antonio Tiberi (Bahrain Victorious) finished fourth on the stage, but his consistent performance moved him up to second overall at 29 seconds. Stefan Kueng (Groupama-FDJ) finished the time trial in 14:51, one second behind Turner, while Alberto Bettiol (XDS-Astana) took a risk on a late roundabout, cutting across a cobbled sector, and finished in 14:57, 14 seconds slower than Milesi.
Unfortunately, race leader Victor Langellotti (Ineos Grenadiers) struggled in the time trial, starting last in a full yellow skinsuit. Despite setting a time of 15:17, he slipped down to fifth overall at 39 seconds.
A total of 115 riders started the time trial, with only three managing to break the 15-minute barrier. The Tour de Pologne has been a thrilling race so far, and with McNulty's victory, the excitement is set to continue in the upcoming stages.
