Cycling enthusiasts in Rheinberger city celebrate new record-breaking achievement of a local cyclist

Cycling enthusiast Rheinberg takes part in the 16th 'Stadtradeln' campaign from May 4th to 24th. A total of 1,527 residents, organized into 61 teams, embarked on a cycling adventure, logging their mileage, reaffirming the integration of cycling into daily life within the Lower Rhine region.

In the heart of Rheinberg, last Sunday saw the celebration of the city's annual cycling event. The event, held at the Rheinberg Underberg swimming pool, attracted a record-breaking participation this year, with a total distance of 176,715 kilometers covered.

The most successful city cyclist was Rolf Ingenpass, who pedaled his way to glory with a distance of 2,233 kilometers, securing the top spot in the individual cyclists category. Dietmar Bloemers followed closely behind, ranking second with a distance of 1,508 kilometers. Susann Lampe completed the top three with a distance of 1,323 kilometers.

The club category was a fierce competition, with ADFC Rheinberg team emerging victorious with a distance of 11,190 kilometers. The Churchbikers took the third spot with 9,354 kilometers, while BSV Eversael and Friends came in second with 11,141 kilometers. "Gazelle & Ketten-Reaktion" and "Team Lampe" rounded off the top performers in the two-person teams category, with distances of 3,344 kilometers and 2,224 kilometers respectively.

The event also saw impressive participation from local schools. Class 8b of the Amplonius-Gymnasium won the best secondary school category with a distance of 3,813 kilometers. The "Turbo Kids" of the Kita St. Anna (School Street) covered the most distance in the school classes and kindergartens category with 4,813 kilometers. Notably, Class 3a of "Schule am Deich" won the best primary school class category with an impressive distance of 880 kilometers.

In a heartwarming moment, 84-year-old Johanna Lensing was honoured for her remarkable achievement of covering all roads in Rheinberg and the surrounding area by bicycle without electric assistance.

Mayor Dietmar Heyde presented certificates to the awarded city cyclists, acknowledging their dedication and commitment to promoting an active and healthy lifestyle in Rheinberg. The event, which has grown in popularity over the years, is a testament to the city's love for cycling and its commitment to fostering a healthy community.
