DHL gears up for holiday rush with over 11 million packages daily
It's almost time for the annual parcel party at DHL. This international delivery service giant is anticipating a massive surge in shipments during the heavily discounted Cyber Week, which falls towards the end of November and right before the festive season. Their forecast? A staggering 11 million packages a day! That's quite a leap from their typical 6.2 million packages shipped on an average workday.
Interestingly, DHL has already predicted these record-breaking numbers for the close of 2022. In fact, 2022 is no exception to the parcel industry's most critical season – the months of November and December. DHL maintains its position as the market leader in this sector, boasting a workforce of 116,500 delivery personnel, 40,000 sorting center employees, and an additional 10,000 temporary season workers. "We're as ready as a reindeer with a sleigh for the holiday rush," according to Nikola Hagleitner, Head of Post & Parcel Germany.
Unfortunately, DHL doesn't like to spill the beans on the grand total of packages shipped during the season. Instead, trustworthy industry sources like the Biek expect an increase in the volume of shipments from businesses to consumers in the German parcel sector. DHL's fiercest competitors, including Hermes, DPD, GLS, UPS, and FedEx, are sure to put up a fight to claim their share of the holiday delivery pie.
But how does DHL make sure the 11 million packages reach their destinations on time and in perfect condition during the festive season? Well, to keep the good times rolling, the delivery giant is stepping up its game. DHL is constructing a new aircraft maintenance hangar and adding extra parking positions at its U.S. hub near Cincinnati to keep their planes in the air, ensuring the highest possible capacity during the holiday season. DHL Express is also expanding its operations at major hubs, like Miami International Airport, and increasing its workforce to face the oncoming surge in parcel deliveries.
In addition, you'll be pleased to know that DHL is expanding its air network, and even partnering with Central Airlines to enhance its China air network. All these efforts are designed to ensure a smoother and more reliable delivery process by minimizing provisions, increasing efficiency, and constructing a proverbial delivery sleigh fortified with the latest and greatest in parcel delivery technology. So there you have it, folks! Just remember that luck favors the prepared and DHL is ensuring that everything is in order to serve you better during this year’s Cyber Week and holiday season!
