In a celebratory atmosphere, seven internationally acclaimed artists were honoured with stars on the Walk of Fame in Sibiu, Romania, as part of the International Theatre Festival (FITS), on June 28, 2025. The prestigious event saw the addition of 77 stars, each celebrating exceptional cultural figures who have contributed significantly to the festival and the city.

The honourees included a diverse group of artists from across the globe. Among them were American actors Bill Murray and Kathleen Turner, Nobel Prize-winning Nigerian author Wole Soyinka, Belgian choreographer Alain Platel, French director Alexis Michalik, Japanese actor Kuranosuke Sasaki, and posthumously, Romanian-born playwright Eugène Ionesco.

Bill Murray, a beloved figure in the world of cinema, received his star with characteristic humour and expressed immense gratitude towards the Romanian audience and his collaborators throughout his career. He joked about people stepping on his name for the rest of his life and thanked the professional actors in Chicago, including his mother and other actors he worked with. Murray also paid tribute to the incredible technicians he collaborated with in television and film.

Sibiu's mayor, Astrid Fodor, marked the occasion, emphasising the significance of the 77 stars now embedded along the city's Walk of Fame. She highlighted the festival's role in celebrating cultural excellence and its impact on Sibiu's vibrant arts scene.

The honourees were welcomed with a warm reception from the local audience, who enjoyed the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of these exceptional artists. As the stars were unveiled, it was clear that Sibiu's Walk of Fame continues to shine brightly, honouring the world's most talented artists and their contributions to the arts.
