Cultural festivity commences this weekend in Saxony-Anhalt, celebrating diverse cultural backgrounds
The Intercultural Weeks (IKW) in Saxony-Anhalt, a political statement for a diverse and open society, is set to commence this Saturday across more than 750 locations throughout the region.
This annual initiative, which has been a tradition in Saxony-Anhalt since the 1990s, is an endeavour of the German Bishops' Conference, the Protestant Church in Germany, and the Greek Orthodox Metropolis. The IKW actively promotes immigration and ensures that immigrants feel welcome, aiming to keep Saxony-Anhalt future-oriented.
Over 6,000 events are scheduled for the Intercultural Weeks, with around 50 cities, municipalities, and districts participating. These events will take place at more than 750 locations throughout the region, offering opportunities for people to meet each other, discover commonalities, and break down prejudices.
The IKW is a significant part of the national calendar, with "Refugee Day" on September 26 being a fixed part of the IKW in Saxony-Anhalt. This year, the national "Refugee Day" will also be celebrated as part of the IKW, marking a day dedicated to promoting understanding, acceptance, and welcome for immigrants.
In Halle, the Mayor will open the event, while in Magdeburg, State Secretary Susi Moebbeck has been announced as the opener. The IKW officially opens in both Magdeburg and Halle (Saale) on Saturday, as confirmed by State Secretary Moebbeck.
The IKW is not just about celebrating diversity, but also about making a stand against racism. It is a statement for a society where diversity and openness prevail, and where racists don't set the tone.
The Intercultural Weeks in Saxony-Anhalt is supported by the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Health and Equality of the State of Saxony-Anhalt, highlighting the importance of such initiatives in fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment.
As the Intercultural Weeks approach, we encourage everyone to participate in the events, engage in conversations, and contribute to a society that values diversity and openness. Let's make Saxony-Anhalt a place where everyone feels welcome.
