In the beautiful region of Thuringia, a cultural extravaganza is unfolding, offering a diverse array of events for art enthusiasts, theatre-goers, and history buffs alike. Here's a round-up of some unmissable happenings this weekend.
Art Exhibitions
The Jena Art Collection is opening a special exhibition titled "So Much Silver in the Grey - Art from the DDR" on August 22. The exhibition, running until November 16 at the Jena City Museum, showcases works by 134 artists, including prominent figures such as Bernhard Heisig, Wolfgang Mattheuer, Werner Tübke, and more.
Simultaneously, the Lindenau Museum Altenburg is presenting a comprehensive retrospective of Dieter Appelt's work, opening on August 24.
Theatre and Performances
The Gera Theater presents "The Path of Orpheus" as an open-air experience on Friday, August 22, at 20:30. Meanwhile, the opera "La Bohème" has limited tickets left for performances from August 29 to 31.
Brett Bailey, a South African director, will present a modern interpretation of Goethe's "Faust II," titled "FaustX," as a premiere on August 21 at 8:30 pm, August 22 at 6 pm, and August 23 at 3 pm.
The play titled "The Land I Love" is based on a text by Elena Kostyushenko and will be performed daily from August 21 to 23 at 20:30 in the Ket-Halle.
Film Screenings
The film "Girls in Uniform" (1958) will be shown at the Altenburg Castle and Playing Card Museum on Friday, August 22, at 6 pm, in conjunction with the exhibition "Education and Emancipation."
Live Music and Performances
Martin Kohlstedt, a magician of buttons, keys, and knobs, will perform a futuristic home game on the open-air stage in the Weimarhallenpark on August 22 at 20:30.
The Focasa Circus Company from Taiwan will bring choreographic storytelling in a circus setting to Germany, with performances on August 22 at 4 pm, August 23 at 6 pm, and August 24 at 4 pm.
Festivals
The 2nd Baukultur Festival is taking place in Apolda from August 20 to 22, focusing on administrative reforms, community orientation, sustainable renovation practices, and creative action.
