Cuba secures another victory in the U-12 baseball tournament

In the eighth edition of the World Baseball Championship Under-12, held in Taipei, China, Cuba secured a significant victory against Panama in the consolation round of the tournament. The 8-2 win placed Cuba outright in seventh position with a perfect 3-0 record in the Placement Round, pushing Panama down to eighth place with a 2-1 record in that round.

The game saw Yan Carlos Ramirez, the Cuban pitcher, work tirelessly for six innings. Despite walking three batters, Ramirez managed to strike out four and allowed only two runs, with five hits. The Cuban team's offensive prowess was on display, with Yuceider Torres and Sean Garcia leading the charge. Torres had two hits, driving in one run, while Garcia drove in two runs, including a home run in three official at-bats.

The Cuban team's victory puts them in contention to be ranked among the top ten teams in the tournament. As it stands, the top six teams are mainly from the Super Round and initial group stage, with Korea, Japan, Mexico, Chinese Taipei, USA, and Dominican Republic holding those positions. Cuba's impressive performance in the Placement Round, coupled with their earlier successes, has earned them a combined ranking among these top contenders.

Looking ahead, the Cuban team will face lower-ranked teams in the world, with the Czech Republic and South Africa up next. The team will aim to continue their winning streak, having won three consecutive games, and secure a higher position in the overall tournament standings.

The top ten teams, reflecting both the Super Round and Placement Round standings, are as follows:

  1. Korea (5-0 in Pool B)
  2. Japan (4-1 in Pool A)
  3. Mexico (4-1 in Pool A)
  4. Chinese Taipei (4-1 in Pool A)
  5. United States (4-1 in Pool B)
  6. Dominican Republic (3-2 in Pool B)
  7. Cuba (3-0 in Placement Round)
  8. Panama (2-1 in Placement Round)
  9. Australia (2-1 in Placement Round)
  10. Czechia (1-2 in Placement Round)

The WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup Placement Round and Super Round continue, with teams battling it out for positions and the chance to be crowned champions of the eighth World Baseball Championship Under-12.

As the WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup Placement Round and Super Round progress, Cuba aims to maintain their winning streak against lower-ranked teams such as the Czech Republic and South Africa. With their current seventh position, they are in contention to break into the top ten teams, who are primarily those from the Super Round and initial group stage, including Korea, Japan, Mexico, Chinese Taipei, USA, and Dominican Republic. MLB talents, like Yan Carlos Ramirez and Yuceider Torres, have been instrumental in Cuba's success, displaying impressive pitching and offensive prowess, respectively.
