Cuala reached an agreement to purchase a six-acre property from Bective Rangers for a price of €2 million.

In a significant move, Cuala GAA Club has announced its intention to purchase a six-acre sports grounds facility from Bective Rangers for €2 million. The proposed acquisition, which has been described as a 'once-in-a-generation opportunity', could potentially create a first-class Cuala gaelic games facility.

The sports grounds in Glenamuck, located on Glenamuck Road in Carrickmines, feature a main grass pitch with floodlights, a smaller floodlit training area, and a clubhouse with dressing room facilities. The members of Bective Rangers have already approved the sale of the property.

Cuala has written to its 3,500 members regarding the potential purchase, outlining the proposed funding for the project. This includes a €1 million bank loan, €500,000 in donor commitments, and €835,000 through club fundraising by members. The name of the club official seeking member approval for the purchase is not publicly available.

The acquisition has the potential to provide strategic benefits for the club. It could relieve pitch access pressure, save on rental costs, offer new sponsorship opportunities, and support future grant and capital funding applications. Cuala, based in Dalkey, are the current All-Ireland football champions, and the acquisition could further strengthen their position.

The club's committee and trustees, as well as the Dublin County Board, have unanimously supported the acquisition. Suggested plans for the site include the realignment and enlargement of the main pitch to a full-sized pitch, and the construction of a fenced all-weather wall ball facility on the smaller grass training area.

The acquisition of the site is not without its challenges. Cuala faces constant challenges in pitch access and incurs significant costs for the club, particularly in winter months, due to reliance on private rented facilities. The acquisition could alleviate these issues, providing a permanent home for the club.

A special general meeting has been scheduled for September 30th, where Cuala members will be asked to approve the acquisition. An initial fundraising target of €2.35 million has been proposed to cover the purchase price and initial preparatory works.

Cuala has enjoyed considerable success in recent years, winning two All-Ireland hurling titles. The acquisition of the sports grounds in Glenamuck could secure the club's future, providing a permanent home and the facilities needed to continue its success.
