Unveiling the stages of a refugee aid controversy: CSU leader's spat with Pro Asyl

Head of CSU State Group, Hoffmann, Voices Criticism Against Pro Asyl - CSU's Group Head, Hoffmann, Criticizes Pro Asylum

In the latest drama unfolding, Alexander Hoffmann, the new head of the CSU parliamentary group, has ginned up a storm against refugee aid organizations like Pro Asyl. This comes following controversial repatriations that were deemed unlawful by the Berlin Administrative Court at the German-Polish border. In the weekend's "Augsburg General," Hoffmann threw some incendiary accusations towards German helpers, insinuating they supported Somalis even before their entry. Pro Asyl fired back, denying these allegations.

"The Soap Opera of Pro Asyl Accusations": A Breakdown

Hoffmann isn't mincing his words, likening the situation involving three asylum seekers from Somalia to a "ludicrously staged event" by asylum activists. He highlighted that Pro Asyl has long been active near refugee routes, including border crossings, where refugees were advised to discard their IDs to complicate deportation from Germany.

In relation to the Somali case, Hoffmann alleged, "One of them was initially considered of legal age during the first two entry attempts, only to suddenly be deemed a minor on the third attempt, with forged IDs. All three possessed fresh phones, making it impossible to track their journey. To me, these events have clear stages of a staged event by asylum activists."

"False Charges": Pro Asyl's Reply

Karl Kopp, the executive director of Pro Asyl, shot back in the newspaper, stating that these accusations have no basis in reality. "We're a human rights organization, advocating for refugees in court. Just like with the three Somalis, one of whom is still a minor. The claim that we advocate people to discard their IDs or purchase new phones is false. This attack on our work is unfounded."

The Berlin Administrative Court issued an urgent ruling on Monday, declaring the repatriation of the Somalis during a border control at Frankfurt (Oder) station was unlawful. The court failed to determine which EU country was responsible for their asylum application, deeming them improperly sent back to Poland. The three asylum seekers are currently back in Berlin, according to a spokesperson for the Senate Administration for the Interior.
