CSU Plans to Initiate a "Bayern Year" to Enhance Local Community's Advantage

In a bid to combat growing polarisation in society, the faction leader of the Christian Social Union (CSU), Klaus Holetschek, has proposed an innovative initiative called the "Bavarian Year." This project, aimed at demonstrating how modern society politics can function, is designed to foster community, provide practical experience, and offer orientation to all age groups.

Alexander Hoffmann, chairman of the CSU parliamentary group within the CDU/CSU Bundestag faction, is the driving force behind this proposal. While Jens Spahn chairs the entire CDU/CSU parliamentary group, Hoffmann leads the CSU subgroup specifically.

The Bavarian Year initiative consists of four modules, each focusing on a key area: social, economic, environmental, and security. These modules are based on the existing structures of voluntary military service, voluntary social and ecological year, and federal voluntary service.

To motivate and reward participants, incentives such as covering driving license costs and priority in university admission procedures will be offered.

In addition, Holetschek emphasised the importance of a strong state thriving on the active cooperation of its citizens. The CSU is also advocating for a return to compulsory military service, expanding it into a mandatory "civic service."

The Bavarian Year initiative covers areas such as security, social, education, and health, and is expected to provide a unique opportunity for individuals to contribute to their community and gain valuable experience in various sectors.
