Somalis' Failed Asylum Attempts CSU Alleges Staging with Refugees' Aid

CSU Alleges Pro Asyl of Orchestrated Refugee "Staging" Events

The German CSU parliamentary group leader, Hoffmann, accused Pro Asyl of questionable actions regarding the denial of asylum to three Somalis by German authorities. The Berlin Administrative Court's ruling has led to controversy, casting a shadow over refugee aid organizations.

The chairman of the CSU-Landegruppe in the Bundestag, Alexander Hoffmann, has leveled serious accusations against organizations like Pro Asyl. These allegations stem from the rejections of three Somali asylum seekers declared illegal by the Berlin Administrative Court. Hoffmann speculated that these "asylum activists" may have provided assistance to the Somalis even before they entered Germany. Pro Asyl firmly denied these accusations.

Hoffmann raised eyebrows when he implied that the case of the three asylum seekers from Somalia had "unintentionally absurd aspects" and suggested a fabricated scenario, or "staging." He explained that Pro Asyl had been involved in assisting refugees along the migration routes for years, advising them to discard identification documents as this makes deportation from Germany more difficult.

According to Hoffmann, one individual was legally of age in the first two attempts to enter, yet suddenly a minor in the third attempt, with identity papers showing signs of forgery. All three had brand new phones with untraceable travel histories. Hoffmann attributed these facts to a deliberate plan by asylum activists.

Karl Kopp, managing director of Pro Asyl, dismissed Hoffmann's allegations as having no basis in fact. Kopp underscored the work of Pro Asyl as a human rights organization that supports refugees in court. Kopp stated that he had represented all three Somali asylum seekers, including the minor. Kopp labeled the accusations as attacks on their work.

The Administrative Court of Berlin pronounced its decision on Monday, declaring that the rejection of the three Somalis at a border control in Frankfurt (Oder) was illegal. Until it is clarified where the applicants' asylum applications should be lodged, they cannot be denied entry. The three applicants had been returned to Poland, but now they are back in Berlin, as confirmed by a spokesman for the Senate Administration for the Interior.
