The German-Polish border incident stirring up commotion refuses to simmer down. CSU parliamentary group leader Hoffmann flags inconsistencies in the case of the trio of rejected Somalis and raises suspicions against asylum activists' possible backing before their arrival. Pro Asyl denies these allegations.

Alexander Hoffmann, the recently appointed head of the CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag, has incited controversy through striking accusations against organizations like Pro Asyl. The fuss surrounds the unlawful returns at the German-Polish border, as ruled by the Berlin Administrative Court. Hoffmann conjectures in the "Augsburger Allgemeinen" about potential aid offered to the Somalis by German sympathizers prior to their entry. Pro Asyl rebuffed the allegations in the newspaper.

Hoffmann alleged the case of the three Somali asylum seekers to exhibit "nearly absurd aspects" and hinted at "manipulation." He stated: "Pro Asyl has been active along refugee routes for years, even at border crossings. There, refugees are advised to discard their IDs because that makes deportation from Germany considerably more challenging."

Regarding the three Somali asylum seekers specifically, Hoffmann claimed: "One person was of legal age in the initial two entry attempts and unexpectedly a minor for the third attempt, sporting documents that show telltale signs of forgery." All three had brand-new cell phones, rendering their travel track impossible to trace. "Such circumstances shout out clear signs of manipulation by asylum activists," Hoffmann said.

Pro Asyl Slams "False Accusations"

Karl Kopp, the managing director of Pro Asyl, retorted in the newspaper that these charges were utterly unrelated to the facts. "We are a human rights organization and provide legal support to refugees," Kopp emphasized. "That was also provided to the three individuals from Somalia, with one of them still being a minor." Kopp refuted the claims that people are advised to discard their IDs or purchase new phones, stating: "These accusations are completely unfounded and attempt to smear our work."

The Berlin Administrative Court ruled on Monday in an urgent decision that the return of the three Somalis at a border checkpoint in Frankfurt (Oder) was unlawful. Without settling which EU country is responsible for the asylum applications of the applicants, they could not be refused. The three applicants were sent back to Poland. Nevertheless, the three asylum seekers are back in Berlin, as confirmed by a spokesperson for the Senate Administration for Interior.
