Newcastle United secured a comfortable 5-0 victory over Crystal Palace in a Premier League encounter played on Wednesday. The Magpies took an early lead through Jacob Murphy in the 14th minute, and the scoreline only grew in their favour as the first half progressed.

Fabian Schär scored the first of Newcastle's second-half goals in the 45+8th minute, and Harvey Barnes added another just two minutes later. Marc-Israel Guehi's own goal in the 38th minute extended Newcastle's lead, and Alexander Isak scored the fifth goal for the home team in the 58th minute.

Crystal Palace had a chance to equalise in the 36th minute, but Eberechi Eze missed the penalty. The defeat marked Palace's second away loss in just five days and extended their losing streak in away matches under coach Oliver Glasner to ten games.

Before this loss, Crystal Palace had been unbeaten away since mid-October last year. The loss followed a 2-5 defeat against defending champions Manchester City last Saturday. Despite the recent setbacks, Crystal Palace remains in 12th place in the Premier League.

Newcastle United, on the other hand, are currently third in the league, two points ahead of Nottingham Forest in the race for the Champions League. The Magpies are six games away from the end of the season, and their impressive form has put them in a strong position to secure a coveted Champions League spot.
