Cruz Azul signs Nigerian striker Christian Ebere for Clausura 2026 push

Cruz Azul has secured the signing of Nigerian striker Christian Ebere for the Clausura 2026 campaign. The 29-year-old arrives from Uruguayan side Nacional and will commit to a three-year contract. His addition marks the club's third African player in history, following in the footsteps of James Owusu-Ansah and Achille Emana.

Ebere's career began with a standout performance at youth level. In 2015, he helped Nigeria win the FIFA U-17 World Cup, netting twice—including a goal against Mexico. His club journey has since taken him through Brazil and Uruguay, where he honed his reputation for explosive speed, sharp dribbling, and versatility on the wing.

Before making his debut, Ebere will complete medical and fitness assessments at Cruz Azul's La Noria training complex. He will also attend the team's Week 5 clash with Toluca, watching from the stands as he prepares for his first appearance.

The striker's arrival adds a new dynamic to Cruz Azul's attack. Known for his direct style and ability to stretch defences, he offers an alternative threat in the final third.

Ebere's three-year deal signals Cruz Azul's intent to bolster their offensive options. His experience in South American leagues and international pedigree could provide an immediate impact. The club will now focus on integrating him into the squad ahead of his competitive debut.
