Crusader Football Team Demonstrates Promising Performance Amid Defeat to Syracuse

Holy Cross Crusaders Fall to Syracuse Orange in Exciting Matchup

The Holy Cross Crusaders faced off against the Syracuse Orange in a highly anticipated game this past weekend, with the contest taking place in the JMA Wireless Dome. Despite a valiant effort, the Crusaders ultimately fell to the Orange, with the final score reading 42-14.

The Crusaders had a slow start, as Syracuse scored the first touchdown of the game through a pass from McCord to Umari Hatcher. Holy Cross responded with their first touchdown of the game, a 63-yard pass from Joe Pesansky to Max Mosey, but the Orange extended their lead throughout the rest of the first half.

The Crusaders showed resilience, with safety Ryan Ruane intercepting a ball for Holy Cross as time expired in the first half. However, Syracuse remained full of promise despite a last-second loss to Stanford the previous week, and they continued to dominate the second half of the game.

The Holy Cross Crusaders had only one win in their first four games of the 2024 season, but they are currently ranked atop the Patriot League. Meanwhile, the Syracuse Orange, led by former Heisman candidate Kyle McCord, currently have a record of 1-4.

The Crusaders will aim to build on the positives from their game against Syracuse as they prepare for their next matchup against the Colgate Raiders next week. The game between Holy Cross and Colgate will take place in upstate New York, and it will be broadcasted on ESPN+. Kickoff for the game is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5.

While the Crusaders' 2024 season was very successful in the FCS, with a strong 12-1 record overall and a quarterfinals appearance in the FCS playoffs, publicly available stats and standings against FBS opponents for 2024 are limited. However, the team is known for occasionally challenging FBS teams closely, as they demonstrated with back-to-back wins over FBS teams in 2021-22 and a close game against Boston College in 2023.

The Holy Cross Crusaders returned from their game against Syracuse with a sense of determination, ready to take on the next challenge and continue their journey in the Patriot League.
