Crowds Gathered in London 44 Years Ago, Awaiting the Coronation of King Charles
In the summer of 1981, the world was captivated by a fairytale event as Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer exchanged vows at St. Paul's Cathedral in London. The wedding, watched by 750 million TV viewers in 74 countries, marked the beginning of a complicated and tumultuous relationship that would forever change the British monarchy.
The courtship between Charles and Diana had gained public attention in the early 1980s, culminating in their engagement announcement earlier that year. The anticipation was palpable, as Charles, the heir to the British throne, was set to marry.
