Liverpool FC's triumphant Premier League parade through the city took an unfortunate turn Monday evening as a vehicle collision left dozens injured on Water Street.

According to authorities, a 53-year-old local man has been detained in connection with the incident, which was not deemed a terrorism event. Merseyside Police's Assistant Chief Constable, Jenny Sims, reported the arrest during a press conference held later in the evening.

In total, at least 27 individuals, including four children, were transported to hospitals. Another 20 were treated onsite for minor injuries. Some victims were reportedly trapped under the vehicle, as announced by Nick Searle, the Chief Fire Officer of Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service.

Initially, a celebratory atmosphere engulfed Water Street, as fans flocked there following Liverpool FC's open-top bus parade commemorating their 20th Premier League title. Unfortunately, the joy quickly transformed into chaos and apprehension when the unfortunate collision occurred around 6:00 PM.

Emergency services resolutely responded, establishing tents and utilizing a nearby restaurant as an emergency medical center.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer later expressed condolences on social media, characterizing the aftermath as "appalling." The investigation is ongoing, with Merseyside Police actively seeking additional information about the motivation and circumstances surrounding the collision.

Liverpool FC, for their part, issued a statement voicing their support for the emergency services involved and expressing prayers for those affected by the incident. Liverpool's cross-city football rivals, Everton FC, also offered their condolences to those impacted by the collision.

According to reports, the collision occurred just after the parade bus had passed the location, leaving many to question the circumstances of the event. Authorities have reiterated the importance of an orderly investigation and urged people not to circulate footage or images of the incident online.
