Cross Country Team of Hellgate Knights Ends Season with Impressive Showing at NXR Meet
Hellgate Knights Cross Country Team Shines at Nike Cross Regionals
The Hellgate Knights cross country team recently participated in the Nike Cross Regionals, a competitive meet featuring top high school teams aiming to qualify for the Nike Cross Nationals.
In the JV division, Wilson Derry, a varsity senior, delivered a strong performance, finishing tenth overall. The JV boys team finished fourth, while the JV girls team placed third. The boys varsity team, although they did not qualify for the championship race, ran well in the highest division of JV, finishing sixth overall.
The girls varsity team, who had high hopes for Nike Cross Regionals after winning girls at state and boys finishing fifth, showed resilience. They finished seventh in the championship race, just short of advancing to Nationals. Beanie Glaser, a sophomore runner, commended the girls varsity team for their talent and amazing chemistry.
Sixty-one athletes from the Hellgate Knights cross country team qualified for a post-season meet, setting a new record for the team this season. Glaser expressed a desire to maintain the team's family-like atmosphere and the contributions of the seniors for the following season. Derry, on the other hand, expressed excitement for the future of the team due to the high number of engaged underclassmen.
