Cross-border perspectives exchanged between Borderland’s PostOst regions

Belarus, an East European landlocked country, historically known as 'White Rus,' is the focus of an intriguing event in Leipzig. This cooperative initiative involves the Referat Internationale Zusammenarbeit of the city of Leipzig, Mosaik Deutschland e.V. Heidelberg, and the Federal Agency for Civic Education.

Situated between Lithuania, Latvia, Russia, Ukraine, and Poland, Belarus has served as a buffer zone throughout history. Its national identity, shaped by its in-between and non-binary nature, is the subject of this engaging discussion.

The main event, titled 'LOKAL DEKOLONIAL,' will take place at Kulturbar froelich & herrlich in the Westwing Leipzig on Friday, 17.10., from 19:30-22:30. It will be moderated by Hanna Harp and will feature poet Volha Hapeyeva, performer Igor Shugaleev, and producer Marina Dashuk.

The event is part of the 'LOKAL DEKOLONIAL' series in Leipzig and Heidelberg. Attendees can expect a stimulating conversation in English, German, and Belarusian languages, with whispered interpretation provided for the latter.

Belarus' cultural code reflects a division between 'us' and 'the others,' but this division is only partially applicable. The Belarusian word 'kraj' can mean 'edge,' 'land,' or 'homeland,' highlighting the complexities of Belarusian identity.

The event is open to all, and registration is required. Further information regarding registration will be provided. The venue is wheelchair accessible, ensuring inclusivity for all participants.

Other 'LOKAL DEKOLONIAL' events at Politik im Freien Theater include 'LOKAL DEKOLONIAL: Framings, Namings, Solidarities - Bubbles between PostOst, Diaspora, and Exile' and 'LOKAL DEKOLONIAL: Pluralism in Exile - Between Tension and Solidarity.'

This event promises to be an enlightening exploration of Belarus' historical context, cultural identity, and its position in Europe. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to engage with Belarusian artists and scholars.
