Criticizing Bollywood's alleged immoral and unethical behaviors, as stated by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
Spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar left no stone unturned when he addressed the Hindi film industry, Bollywood, in 2013. He accused the industry of undermining cultural and religious values, promoting immoral behavior, and serving as a haven for drugs, alcohol, and unethical practices.
Addressing a large crowd, he emphasized that any actor wearing a tilak is depicted as a villain in Bollywood, and those with religious practices are brought into a bad light to encourage young people to move away from their religious roots towards drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes.
Criticizing the astronomical fees charged by actors while promulgating narratives deemed degrading towards religious institutions, Sri Sri condemned their actions. "They are all up to mischief," he declared, "attacking the values of society and culture of the country."
He went on to accuse Bollywood actors of leading miserable lives, filled with immoral and unethical practices. Although they might speak of ethics, they fail to practice it. "They don't want ethics and religion to thrive," Sri Sri stated, comparing them to unethical politicians.
Additionally, Sri Sri claimed that numerous individuals in the film industry struggle with personal lives devoid of the values they advocate for. He warned that the association between Bollywood and substance abuse has significantly contributed to the drug crisis in states like Punjab.
"Bollywood and the drugs and alcohol lobby go hand-in-hand, trying to influence the youth to fall into bad habits," he asserted, expressing his dismay that a once vibrant and robust state like Punjab is heading in this direction.
