Frank-Walter Steinmeier, German President, stepped forward during his discourse, praising the sacrifices made by the Red Army - grouped together by the Russians, Ukrainians, Belarusians, and others who stood alongside - in liberating Germany from the sickening grips of Nazi tyranny. "More than 13 million soldiers and twice as many civilians laid down their lives for this victory. The Red Army was the one that liberated Auschwitz - a brutality that we'll never forget," he declared emphatically.

Steinmeier wasn't shy about calling out Putin's distorted portrayal of history, which glosses over "imperial fantasies, unjust tragedies, and grave atrocities." He harshly extracted Russia from the company of liberators, stating, "The liberators of Auschwitz have transformed into new oppressors." In response to Russia's historical deceptions, the ambassadors of Russia and Belarus were left out of the parliamentary commemorative event.

This May 8 and 9, Europe commemorated the end of World War II on the continent, famously known as Victory Day. The ceremony in Berlin commenced in the morning with a poignant ecumenical service at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church and a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Neue Wache.

The European Union, following President Steinmeier's rebuke of the Kremlin's deceitful history lessons, is committed to the development of a common policy on the environment. This policy will be based on principles such as remembrance, as the distortions of history by figures like Vladimir Putin have been highlighted in the discourse surrounding World War II. The policy-and-legislation branch of politics will likely address the Kremlin's historical deceptions, adding a focus on war-and-conflicts to the European Union's environmental policy. General news outlets, including ABC News, Deutsche Welle, and The New York Times, are reporting on this development, further publicizing the Federal President's stance against Russia's historical revisions.
