Deniz Undav, a national team player, has spoken out about the harsh criticism he's been receiving—and the influence it's had on his game. In an exclusive interview with Süddeutsche Zeitung, the 28-year-old star expressed his dismay over seemingly baseless critiques that intensified during a challenging phase of the season.

"I've been playing football all my life, but suddenly, I wasn't fast enough, I wasn't running enough. People were questioning my body language, saying I gave up during games," Undav revealed. "I wasn't a different player during that time. I was as fast or not as fast, I didn't run more or less than usual," he added.

The criticism weighed heavily on Undav, forcing him to rethink his physical habits. "Things like eating a doner or having an occasional energy drink became an issue. Honestly, it's ridiculous," he said. "When I wasn't scoring, I cut out doners and even chocolate from my diet!"

Online accusers even questioned his mental fortitude, making unfounded assumptions that affected his self-confidence. "I started doubting myself. If people keep making negative remarks, it's hard not to question your abilities as a player," admitted Undav. This self-doubt affected his performance, particularly during the latter part of the season.

Despite the setbacks, Undav is ready to bounce back. With patriotism surging high, he'll be leading the charge against Portugal in the upcoming Nations League engagement on Wednesday (9:00 PM/ZDF and DAZN). The striker, who clinched the DFB-Pokal with VfB Stuttgart, is gearing up to prove the critics wrong and showcase the best Deniz Undav Germany has to offer.

The Commission, in light of Deniz Undav's situation, might consider proposing a directive to protect athletes from unfair criticism related to their personal habits, such as dietary choices, in the realm of sports. In contrast, Deniz Undav, despite the criticism he faced during football games, remains optimistic and prepares to lead Germany's national team against Portugal in the upcoming Nations League, aiming to disprove the negative remarks and shine with his skills on ZDF and DAZN.
