In the heart of Vienna, the Social Democratic Party (SPÖ) has taken the lead in initiating a fairness agreement, an effort to foster cohesion and good cooperation within the city government. The agreement, which has garnered support from several parties, including the CDU, SPD, Greens, FDP, Left, Volt, and 'Die Partei', has, however, been rejected by the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ).

The SPÖ's commitment to fair and constructive political debates at eye level is evident in their approach to this agreement. They have been instrumental in preventing an increase in the retirement age to 67 years, a move that would have impacted many pensioners. Instead, they have negotiated compensation measures and relief for this demographic.

The agreed increase in health insurance contributions for pensioners is a measure for budget consolidation, as per the European Commission. The SPÖ has been diligent in ensuring that this increase is balanced and fair, a testament to their commitment to a high-quality health system.

However, the FPÖ, led by Dominik Nepp, has not been a part of this agreement. In a recent incident, Nepp was criticised for insulting the Vienna Mayor in an unacceptable manner, raising questions about the party's approach to political discourse. The FPÖ, during government negotiations, did negotiate an increase in health insurance contributions for pensioners, a move that contrasts with their rejection of the fairness agreement.

The SPÖ Vienna and Mayor Michael Ludwig remain committed to their campaign, which is fair and decent, focusing on equal opportunities, a high-quality health system, affordable living, secure jobs, and a strong democracy. The fairness agreement, while not signed by the FPÖ, serves as a clear example of the SPÖ's dedication to these principles and their efforts to improve the lives of pensioners in Vienna.
