Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese football superstar, recently proposed to his long-time partner, Georgina Rodriguez, with a stunning oval-shaped diamond engagement ring. The couple, who have been together since 2016, announced the happy news on Instagram, sharing a photo of the proposal.
The ring, which features a massive oval-shaped diamond reportedly weighing between 25 and 40 carats, is estimated to be worth between $2 million and $7 million. While estimates vary, the consensus places the ring's value roughly between $3 million and $5 million.
Jewelry experts have noted the flawless cut of the diamond, and industry insiders have pointed out the double-claw prongs used to secure the heavy center stone, following a popular trend among high-end engagement rings.
US gem dealer and influencer Julia Hackman Chafe has compared the estimated value of Ronaldo's engagement ring to the Graff ring with a 35.01-carat emerald-cut diamond, which was sold at Sotheby's for $3.2 million.
Ronaldo, who recently signed a two-year contract extension at Al-Nassr FC, keeping him at the Saudi Pro League club until the summer of 2027, is step-father to Rodriguez's three older children, twins Mateo and Eva, and son Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. The couple have two daughters together - Alana, seven, and Bella, three.
The cost of the ring in the UAE is approximately $1.5 million, while an international brand could price the ring between $3 to $4 million. The Gemological Institute of America's Diamond Grading Scale lists D as the highest possible rating, indicating a colourless diamond.
Ronaldo's engagement ring is one of the more expensive celebrity engagement rings recently, but it doesn't hold the title of the most expensive. Jay-Z proposed to Beyonce in 2007 with a 24-carat emerald-cut diamond ring, which he is said to have bought for $5 million, while Mariah Carey received a 35-carat emerald cut ring from billionaire James Packer in 2016, which he bought for $10 million.
