Cristiano Ronaldo criticizes individuals who voiced doubts over the decision of a former Chelsea player to join a team in Saudi Arabia
In a surprising turn of events, Portugal's football sensation Cristiano Ronaldo has come to the defence of his fellow countryman Joao Felix, who recently joined Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr.
Ronaldo, who is now engaged to long-term girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez, was one of the first to talk to Joao Felix about joining Al Nassr. The move, worth up to £43 million, came after a turbulent period in Europe for the talented forward.
Joao Felix left Chelsea in the summer and had a brief loan spell with AC Milan before joining Al Nassr. His debut for the club was nothing short of spectacular, as he scored a hat-trick in his first game. Since then, he has played five games, registering one assist in addition to his goals.
However, the move has not been without controversy. A Portuguese podcast, Chuveirinho, questioned Joao Felix's decision to join Al Nassr at the age of 25. The podcast, known as "From The Shed End Podcast," criticised the move, leading to a response from Ronaldo on his Instagram.
Ronaldo's post included the statement, "Idiots don't understand anything about football, yet they still give their opinions," alongside three crying emojis. This was in reference to the critics from the podcast.
Ronaldo, who has scored 95 goals in 109 appearances since moving to Al Nassr, feels a sense of camaraderie with Joao Felix. The young forward has expressed a "wonderful moment" and a "beautiful feeling" when speaking about Ronaldo.
The Chuveirinho account later posted a message asking whether they "deserve" to be called out by Ronaldo after regularly praising him. It seems that the respect is mutual, with Ronaldo defending Joao Felix over the criticism of his move to Al Nassr.
In June, Ronaldo signed a new two-year contract with Al Nassr worth an eye-watering £492m. With the support of his fellow Portuguese star, Joao Felix will be hoping to continue his impressive form and help Al Nassr achieve success in the upcoming seasons.
