Crisis Resilience is a Priority for the State Government

Hesse is stepping up efforts to improve crisis resilience across the state. Recent measures include new drone defence systems for security agencies and expanded partnerships to protect critical infrastructure. The government’s latest moves aim to address growing threats and ensure operational stability during emergencies.

The Hessian state government has made crisis resilience a key focus. Through initiatives like the Hessian Security and Resilience Council and the Joint Security Dialogue, officials are working to strengthen protections for vital services. Innenstaatsekretär Martin Rößler helped launch the council in 2023 as part of broader efforts to enhance the state’s preparedness.

Drone overflights have prompted action, with the Hesse State Police now receiving detection and defence technology. This step follows concerns over unauthorised drone activity and its potential risks to public safety. Meanwhile, the Independent Partnership for Critical Infrastructure (UP KRITIS) has reached a milestone by welcoming its 1,000th member: **Oberhessische Versorgungsbetriebe AG (OVAG)**. The national platform, designed to safeguard essential services, has grown significantly since its launch. **Prof. Dr. Michael Pilgermann**, UP KRITIS spokesperson, commended Hesse’s active role in the initiative and highlighted OVAG’s inclusion as a positive development. The Hessian Resilience Strategy ties these efforts together. It consolidates existing protections, identifies weak points, and ensures critical systems remain functional during crises. **Roman Poseck**, Hesse’s Minister of the Interior and Homeland Security, stressed the importance of these measures. He pointed to evolving threats and extreme weather as reasons for reinforcing resilience in key organisations. The push for stronger defences aligns with national concerns. The **BSI Situation Report 2025** warns that Germany must improve its digital protections and raise standards for critical infrastructure. Hesse’s actions reflect this urgency, aiming to set a standard for other regions.

Hesse’s latest steps include new drone defences, expanded partnerships, and a structured resilience strategy. These measures target vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure while preparing for future challenges. The state’s approach combines technology, collaboration, and long-term planning to maintain stability in emergencies.
