A baffling snub leaves thousands locked out. Intel offered help for years, but Pearl Abyss still won't explain why its game rejects Arc GPUs.

Crimson Desert blocks Intel Arc GPUs despite developer support offers

Crimson Desert, the latest release from developer Pearl Abyss, fails to run on Intel Arc GPUs. Players with these graphics cards are met with a black screen, despite no clear technical explanation. The situation has raised questions, as the game supports even niche platforms like macOS while excluding a GPU line with a much larger user base.

Intel has repeatedly offered assistance to Pearl Abyss since 2021. The company provided early hardware, driver access, and engineering resources to ensure compatibility. Yet, according to Intel, Pearl Abyss declined these offers.

The exclusion is striking given Intel Arc GPUs hold around seven to eight percent of Steam's market share. By comparison, Crimson Desert has been ported to macOS and optimised for Apple Silicon—despite macOS representing just 1.16% of Steam users. Pearl Abyss has not explained why Intel Arc GPUs are unsupported. The developer only confirms the lack of compatibility and directs affected players to request refunds. Intel, meanwhile, states it remains ready to help but has not confirmed whether Pearl Abyss has accepted any of its offers.

The game's refusal to run on Intel Arc GPUs leaves a significant portion of players unable to access it. Intel continues to extend support, but Pearl Abyss has yet to provide a resolution or justification. For now, affected users have no option but to seek refunds or switch hardware.
