A Wild Ride Through Justice

Ireland and Northern Ireland are gearing up for a twisted, comedic rollercoaster ride with Tall Tales & Murder, a new crime drama commissioned by RTÉ and BBC Northern Ireland, teaming up with Screen Ireland. This six-episode series has already secured a two-series order, with each series boasting six thrilling episodes.

Get ready to be hooked by the dark, humorous narrative that takes an unexpected turn when a woman's murder in a coastal town sets off a chaotic chain of events, turning the lives of its residents upside down. Buckle up as an eclectic trio, far from your typical crime-solving crew, embarks on this captivating journey. The series is inspired by Caimh McDonnell's best-selling Dublin Trilogy, though it seems the scenic coastal town replaces the original Dublin setting[1][3].

At the helm of this gripping tale, we have Love/Hate creator Stuart Carolan who has reunited with Aidan Gillen, as well as Emmy, BAFTA, and Directors Guild of America winner Chris Addison. Addison will not only co-create and direct the series, but also bring his unique take on the script, ensuring a dark and delicious screwball drama[1]. Neasa Hardiman will also be directing.

The series is produced by the formidable team at Avalon, in alliance with Metropolitan Pictures, who have previously brought us Kin. The ensemble cast includes Ella Lily Hyland, famous for her role in Black Doves, Philippa Dunne from the acclaimed series Derry Girls, and Packy Lee from Peaky Blinders. Filming has now commenced in Dublin, with a 2026 premiere date in sight[1].

RTÉ's Head of Drama, David Crean, describes the series as part of an extraordinary lineup of homegrown Irish dramas, while BBC Northern Ireland's Eddie Doyle hails it as "storytelling at its darkest, funniest, and most surreal".

The series is executive produced by Addison, Carolan, and Avalon's Richard Allen-Turner, Rob Aslett, and Jon Thoday, with David McLoughlin and Catherine Tiernan for Metropolitan Pictures. Caroline Norris is the series producer, and Gemma O'Shaughnessy takes on the role of producer[1].
