Criminal law should be adjusted, according to the Alliance against Antisemitism's request.
In a significant move, a coalition of approximately 200 organizations, associations, and parties has launched a campaign to combat antisemitism in Germany. The coalition, which includes notable figures such as actress Uschi Glas and Volker Beck, the President of the German-Israeli Society, has unveiled a five-point plan aimed at transitioning from declarations to action.
The plan, presented at a demonstration in Munich on October 5 at Königsplatz, seeks to enable civil servants to include mandatory educational content on Jewish life, Israeli history, and antisemitism in their training plans. It also calls for the appointment of antisemitism commissioners at universities, in the police, judiciary, and administration.
One of the key demands is the expansion of the criminal offense of incitement to hatred. The coalition is advocating for a legal basis to prevent public funds from funding antisemitic projects. They are also calling for cross-border monitoring to be expanded to combat antisemitism effectively.
The coalition's efforts are not limited to domestic issues. They are demanding the exercise of Jewish religious freedom be secured in holiday rights and are calling for active protection of synagogues and memorial sites. The reopening of a synagogue in Munich was the occasion for Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) to declare war on all forms of old and new antisemitism in Germany.
In addition, the coalition is demanding an expansion of the punishments for calls for the destruction of a state. They are also calling for a clear legal basis to be established to ensure the security of Jewish religious freedom in holiday rights.
Under the patronage of the Federal Government's Antisemitism Commissioner and the President of the Israelite Cultural Community, the coalition aims to take concrete action against antisemitism. They have launched a corresponding petition and are calling for a demonstration on October 5 in Munich. The coalition's plan is aimed at enabling binding action against antisemitism and securing a safer environment for the Jewish community in Germany.
