Crimea’s Indian Summer Blends Warm Air and Chilly Seas in November
Autumn in Crimea is proving to be a mix of chilly seas and warm air, making it an ideal time for outdoor activities despite the cooling waters. Meteorologists describe this period as an Indian summer, with air temperatures remaining mild while water temperatures start to drop significantly.
The Sea of Azov has seen its water temperature plummet to 13°C (55°F), requiring beachgoers to muster the hardiness of winter swimmers. Along the coast, temperatures vary slightly, with Yevpatoria and Sevastopol around 15°C (59°F), and Alushta and Yalta slightly warmer at 16°C (61°F). Meanwhile, the air remains crisp and warm, perfect for walks and sightseeing.
The Kerch Strait has cooled to 14°C (57°F), and while the Black Sea temperatures decrease daily, the region is experiencing late autumn rather than the harsh winter. Weather forecasts predict dry and clear conditions returning by November 6–7 after brief showers on November 5. Nearby areas like Simferopol are expected to have temperatures around 9°C, maintaining mild conditions in the region.
Crimea's early November offers a unique blend of warm air and cooling seas, making it an ideal time for outdoor activities. Despite the dropping water temperatures, the region's mild air temperatures and clear skies ensure a pleasant late autumn experience for visitors.
