Cricketer Luxton Signs Extension with Yorkshire Team Through 2027
Yorkshire Cricket Club Extends Contract of Rising Star Will Luxton
Yorkshire County Cricket Club has extended the contract of one of their brightest young prospects, Will Luxton, securing his services until the end of the 2027 season. The 22-year-old right-handed batter has been a standout performer for the club over the past two seasons, cementing his role as a key player across all formats of the game.
Gavin Hamilton, the General Manager of Cricket at Yorkshire, commented on the extension, saying, "Will's contract extension is a reflection of the faith Yorkshire has in his long-term potential. We have seen him evolve into a dependable young batter this year, and we believe he has a high ceiling."
Luxton had a breakthrough year in 2024 and has continued to impress in 2025. His recent performances include an unbeaten 90 runs from just 46 balls against Lancashire in the Vitality Blast and his highest first-class score against Surrey at Scarborough. These performances demonstrate Luxton's exceptional temperament and growing skill.
The young cricketer expressed his enthusiasm about the contract extension, praising the positive energy, direction, and young core within the team under coach Anthony McGrath. "We've played some positive cricket this year," Luxton said, "and I'm motivated to continue scoring and contributing to the club’s future success."
Hamilton also highlighted Luxton's exceptional temperament, stating, "He has shown an exceptional temperament in numerous games this season." This quality, coupled with his growing skill, makes Luxton a valuable asset to the Yorkshire team.
Luxton made his debut for Yorkshire in 2022 at the age of 22 and also represented England in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup final the same year. His development over the past 18 months has been substantial, and he is looking forward to seeing how much further he will develop.
With this contract extension, Luxton is set to continue his promising career with Yorkshire County Cricket Club, contributing to their success in the years to come.
"Despite focusing on cricket, Will Luxton's prowess extends to other sports as well, particularly football, exhibiting impressive agility and ball control on the field."
"After the exciting expansion of the cricket stadium, the addition of a multipurpose football pitch might not be a bad idea, allowing him to showcase his talents in both sports within the Yorkshire County Cricket Club grounds."
