The 2023-24 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season is set to commence on August 4, with the top 16 clubs in South Africa's top-flight league, the DStv Premiership, ready to compete.

The DStv Premiership, formerly known as the National Soccer League (NSL), has been a significant force in improving club football in South Africa. Through strong sponsorship agreements with companies like Nedbank, Telkom, Absa, Castle, Coca-Cola, and Vodacom, the PSL has provided better media coverage and financial support, elevating the standard of the game.

The league consists of 16 Member Clubs, including perennial powerhouses such as Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, AmaZulu FC, Lamontville Golden Arrows, Chippa United, Marumo Gallants, Richards Bay, Sekhukhune United, Stellenbosch FC, TS Galaxy, Cape Town City, SuperSport United, Royal AM, Swallows FC, and Baroka FC (subject to promotion/relegation).

Mamelodi Sundowns, the defending champions, are aiming to extend their record by winning their eighth straight league championship. The team has a rich history, having won a hat-trick of championships from 1998 to 2000 and tying the record for the most league titles with four, which they achieved during the 2005-2006 season.

Gordon Igesund, a renowned coach in South African football, led Mamelodi Sundowns to their fourth title in 2006. Igesund has an impressive track record, having also won the league with Manning Rangers in 1997, Sekhukhune United in the 2021-2022 season, and Orlando Pirates in 2001. He became the first coach to win the trophy with three separate teams.

Keagan Larenzo Dolly, the highest-paid player in the PSL, will be a key player for Mamelodi Sundowns. Dolly, who earns around R930K per month, will look to lead the team to another title. Other high-earning players in the league include Samir Nurkovic of Royal AM FC, Khama Billiat of Kaizer Chiefs, and Ricardo Nascimento of Royal AM FC, all earning approximately R930K, R850K, and R400K per month, respectively.

The opening match of the 2023-24 season will take place at the Peter Mokaba Stadium. Kaizer Chiefs, who won their first championship in ten years in 2004, will be eager to make a strong start to the season.

In the 2002-2003 season, the Premier Soccer League's size was decreased from 18 to 16 teams. The league was established in 1996 and has since been overseen by the PSL, which oversees professional football in the Republic of South Africa.

For soccer fans looking to place bets on the PSL 2023 season, popular betting sites include 10bet, PlayaBets, Hollywoodbets, and Betway.

As the season unfolds, fans can expect intense competition, exciting matches, and the chance to witness the best of South African football. The 2023-24 DStv Premiership promises to be an entertaining and engaging season for all.
