Creator of Scrubs Employs Previous Zach Braff Remark to Clarify that the Upcoming Reboot won't Reiterate the Original Series
The much-anticipated Scrubs revival is set to bring back some beloved characters from the original series, including Zach Braff as John "J.D." Dorian, Donald Faison as Turk, and Sarah Chalke as Elliot. The official logline indicates that JD and Turk will "scrub in together for the first time in a long time" at Sacred Heart Hospital, with medicine having changed and new interns introduced 13.
Bill Lawrence, the original series creator, is involved as executive producer but not as showrunner for the revival. He is working to ensure that the exploration of JD in the Scrubs revival does not rehash what was experienced when he first started working at Sacred Heart 1. Zach Braff himself has expressed concerns about the revival not simply rehashing the original series 5.
The focus of the revival will be on JD and Turk reconnecting professionally amid changes in medicine and hospital life, alongside interactions with new interns. Sarah Chalke has expressed hopes for fun elements such as a flash mob in the reboot, highlighting the show's blend of comedy and drama 35.
Other original cast members like John C. McGinley (Dr. Cox) and Judy Reyes (Carla) are reportedly in talks to return, but there is no confirmation yet for Ken Jenkins (Dr. Kelso) or Neil Flynn (The Janitor) 13.
The revival is produced by ABC and 20th Television. It is expected to premiere potentially as a midseason offering in 2026 1, marking a departure from when Scrubs 1.0 was still on the air.
As the TV landscape has significantly changed since Scrubs ended, with the rise of streaming and different approaches to small screen storytelling, fans are eager to see how the Scrubs revival will adapt to these changes while maintaining the show's unique charm 2. The original series is available for revisiting with a Hulu subscription 1.
