Crafting a Humorous Piece Proves Challenge: Not Every Article Turns Out Laugh-Out-Loud Good

The satirical section of The Spire, a student-run newspaper, has been facing criticism and rejection from the other sections, including News, Opinions, Features, and Sports. This criticism appears to stem from the Eggplant's content style or tone, which may be viewed as disruptive or unproductive compared to the more serious and traditional journalistic approaches of the other sections.

The Eggplant section, known for its satire and humour, has been a popular part of The Spire for some time. However, it has faced criticism for its unconventional commentary, as seen in the controversial statement about "bros employment being schizoposting on a college newspaper online comment section" [1]. This disruptive nature could explain the tensions with the more formal sections like News and Opinions.

Despite the criticism, the Eggplant section continues to produce satirical content. In fact, the writer of the article "I Write One Eggplant Article a Year. Here is the Third One." is Dennis Liu '22 [2]. The Editor-in-Chief has also praised the Eggplant section, calling it "very funny" [3].

Meanwhile, The Spire's other sections are also making headlines. For instance, the Opinions section has an article stating that they did not care for The Godfather [4]. Elsewhere, hundreds of students have gathered to observe the grass on the Hoval increasing in height [5], and some students are watching how Jo's new coat of paint reacts to the air [6].

The Copy Editing section, on the other hand, remains an unnoticed part of the newspaper's operations.
