In recent WNBA games, an unusual form of disruption has been making headlines - spectators throwing sex toys onto the court.

The latest incident occurred at the Mercury's game in Phoenix on July 31, where a man was arrested for allegedly throwing a sex toy from his sweater pocket, striking a spectator in the back. Fortunately, the spectator was not injured. This marks the second reported incident of a sex toy being thrown during a WNBA game in Phoenix.

Previously, a man was arrested in College Park, Georgia, for throwing a sex toy onto the court during the Dream's game with the Golden State Valkyries on July 29. Another sex toy was thrown at the game in Atlanta, but it's unclear if it reached the court.

The same man was also accused of throwing a sex toy during the Dream's game against the Phoenix Mercury on Friday. Another man was arrested in Phoenix for a similar act during the same Mercury game.

Sex toys have also been thrown onto the court during games in Los Angeles and Chicago, although the specific dates and details are not provided.

The WNBA has been dealing with these repeated incidents, viewing them as dangerous and disrespectful, posing risks to players, officials, and fans. In response, the league has taken strict measures: any fan who throws objects on the court is immediately ejected from the arena and will face a minimum one-year ban, in addition to possible arrest and prosecution by local authorities. At least one fan was arrested for throwing a sex toy during a Dream game in Atlanta.

Players and coaches have publicly condemned the behavior as immature, dangerous, and disrespectful. Elizabeth Williams and Sophie Cunningham, among others, have voiced frustration and concern for their safety, urging respect for the game and calling out arena security for better enforcement.

WNBA arenas generally have security measures such as no-bag policies or clear bag restrictions, and security staff search bags on entry in an effort to prevent such incidents.

The WNBA has emphasized player safety and game respect as top priorities, stating that throwing objects, including sex toys, is not acceptable. The league is working to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all fans and players.
