The Rechtsschutzsaal, a historically significant trade union building located in Friedrichsthal-Bildstock, Germany, is set to undergo a major renovation. This renovation will adapt the building to today's requirements for barrier-free use, ensuring it remains an open and inclusive space for all.

The grant of 541,687 euros, provided by the Saarland Ministry of the Interior, is part of the 'National Urban Development Projects' program. This funding supplements previously promised federal funding of around 1.14 million euros under the same program.

Mayor Christian Jung welcomed numerous guests at the ceremonial handover of the grant, which took place on site. The guests included members of the Saarland state parliament, representatives from federal and state authorities, members of the Friedrichsthal city council, and employees of the city administration.

Minister of the Interior Reinhold Jost emphasized the importance of the building and stated that access to such historically and socially relevant facilities should be equally possible for all people. He handed over the grant to Mayor Christian Jung.

The funds will be used for renovation of the facade and creation of barrier-free access, including installation of a passenger elevator and structural adaptations to the entrance and outdoor areas. The commitment of those involved in the planning and implementation of the challenging renovation project was particularly highlighted.

The Rechtsschutzsaal is not just a historical building; it is a 'social history memorial, information, and event venue' that is actively used by many local associations. The renovation will help preserve this important cultural heritage while making it more accessible to everyone.

The board and advisory council of the Rechtsschutzsaal expressed their gratitude for the financial support, acknowledging that it will enable the building to be renovated in a historically appropriate manner. They look forward to the future, where the Rechtsschutzsaal will continue to serve as a hub for the community in Friedrichsthal-Bildstock.

This renovation project is a testament to the commitment of the Saarland Ministry of the Interior and the federal government to preserving and improving Germany's cultural heritage. The Rechtsschutzsaal in Friedrichsthal-Bildstock, Germany's oldest trade union building, will continue to stand as a symbol of the region's rich history and its commitment to inclusivity and accessibility.
