Dismissed: Ex-FC St. Pauli Goalie Avoids Trial for Alleged Assault... For Now
Suspension of trial for ex-Pauli pro, pending payment of bail - Court Rules Commission's Negligence in Meeting Article 85 (1) Obligations Under the Treaty
Let's dish it out, shall we? The infamous ex-football pro, Benedikt Pliquett, has managed to wriggle out of a sticky situation involving accused assault and coercion - temporarily, that is. The Hamburg-Altona local court has ruled in his favor, under the condition of a hefty 1,500 Euro fine.
The former goalkeeper of FC St. Pauli found himself in hot water back in 2023, when he was accused of threatening and attacking his then-wife and her companion. Pliquett, a 40-year-old hard nut, refused to accept the charges of attempted bodily harm and coercion. As a result, a trial was scheduled.
After grilling the alleged victim, the assault charges against Pliquett were dropped. How? You ask. Well, the man simply felt a gust of wind on his neck but couldn't pinpoint the defendant's actions.
Proceedings Dismissed (But Only For Now)
Pliquett's ex-wife chose to exercise her right to remain silent. Coercion charges against Pliquett were deemed valid by the prosecution, but a conviction wasn't a given. With all parties agreeing, the proceedings were momentarily dismissed on condition of the payment. The proceedings will be finalized once the cash is handed over.
Pliquett was a key player for FC St. Pauli from 2004 to 2013. During his tenure, he donned the goalie jersey in 26 Bundesliga and 21 second division games for the Hamburg team.
