Court Revokes Bail Granted to Actors Darshan and Pavithra Gowda in Renukaswamy Homicide Case
Supreme Court Cancels Bail for Actors in Renukaswamy Murder Case
The Supreme Court of India has taken a significant step in the Renukaswamy murder case by cancelling the bail granted to Kannada actors Darshan Thoogudeepa and Pavithra Gowda. The high-profile case involves allegations of abduction and torture of Renukaswamy, who had reportedly sent obscene messages to actress Pavithra Gowda.
Initially, the Karnataka High Court had granted bail to Darshan, Pavithra, and several others, but the Supreme Court Bench of Justices JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan found serious legal infirmities in the High Court's bail orders. The Court emphasised that the granting of bail without proper consideration of witness intimidation and the gravity of charges threatened the fair administration of justice.
Following this verdict in August 2025, both Darshan and Pavithra were arrested and taken into custody. The Court made it clear that no one is above the law, regardless of social status.
As of now, Pavithra, the prime accused (A1), and Darshan, the second accused, are in custody. The five other individuals involved in the case are currently out on bail.
This decision reflects the Supreme Court's firm stance on ensuring accountability and preventing interference in the ongoing trial. The Court's actions underscore the importance of upholding justice and maintaining the integrity of the legal system.
