Court-imposed bail is not met by Elene Khoshtaria, as stated by Droa.

Elene Khoshtaria, the leader of the Droa party and a key figure in the Georgian opposition coalition 'Coalition for Change' (C4C), has made headlines due to her recent refusal to accept bail and legal representation amidst charges of damaging another person's property.

Khoshtaria was detained on September 15, and her trial, initially scheduled for 13:00, was postponed until 15:30. Judge Arsen Kalatozishvili issued a ruling for her release on a bail of GEL 5,000, but Khoshtaria has publicly declared her refusal to allow anyone to post her bail.

The offence for which Khoshtaria is charged is under Part 1 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, concerning damage of another person's property causing significant harm. The court appointed a treasury lawyer for Khoshtaria, but she also declined this assistance.

Khoshtaria's stance on her detention is that paying bail does not equate to real freedom. She has expressed that her imprisonment is not the end of the struggle, promising to prevail triumphantly until the very end.

In a surprising turn of events, Khoshtaria also refused to meet with a human rights defender who visited her in detention, and she has rejected both legal representation and the right to a defence. This decision has raised questions about her approach to the legal proceedings and her commitment to defending herself.

The deadline for paying the bail was set at 20 days, and Judge Kalatozishvili's ruling for Khoshtaria's release has been met with confusion, as Khoshtaria did not attend the hearing. Her absence prompted the judge to express confusion about her absence.

Despite these challenges, Khoshtaria remains defiant. She believes her imprisonment is illegal and has stated that she will not pay the GEL 5,000 bail amount. Her refusal to bow to the court's decision has drawn attention to her case and her commitment to her cause.

As the situation continues to unfold, the Georgian public and international observers will be watching closely to see how this case develops and what impact it may have on the political landscape of the country.
